Dog Days Of Summer

We had a great time at the Dog Days of Summer in Carson City today! Available were conformation, obedience, rally, and agility fun runs/matches. Also, our club, the Sierra Nevada Border Collie Club offered pet photography and a dog wash. Someone else was selling cold drinks, but I didn't catch who that was.

Bug (pre-bath) kept an eye on everyone from her x-pen. She also participated in the dog wash and agility fun runs. She was fantastic on the agility course. It was her first time running in this type of setting, and her first time doing long sequencing. She was great. Kim also brought her 2x2 weaves to work, and Bug did six straight for the first time! Way to go, Bug-a-boo!!!

Jamie's mom brought Kyla (sp?) the Corgi and her granddaughter. Kim got some adorable shots of them in the pet photography session.

Here we are, ready to rumble! The tub closest to the camera is mine. I'm so proud! :-P

Jane (foreground) and Panda hung out and participated in the photography, dog wash, and agility. . .and in between were contained by this Chihuahua owned, 18" x-pen. In spite of the incredible drive both dogs have for the sport of agility, and just plain being with their handlers/owners, both dogs are well trained and respect the barrier of something that is shorter than the jumps Jane effortlessly clears in agility training. Good Dogs!

Thank you so much to Kathy and Devon who made our signs! Perfect!! The breeze wasn't cooperating with my picture taking, but that's ok. They were great!

Jamie, why do you hate me?

Thanks to Jamie and Tonie for doing such a great job of giving Jane a bath! She looks and smells so fresh and clean!
There they are. The dynamic duo. Post bath. Looking gorgeous and ready to go herding, after all this dog club business! Panda, for those who don't know, is my friend Kathy's BC. I take him herding, and have recently started handling him in agility.

Both had really good runs in agility. I haven't done much work in agility with Panda, and I'm pleased with how we're doing together. He's working some nice distance stuff, and for a dog that hasn't had really any agility training in two years, he is turning in some really nice work for me. And, I'm not even his main person!

Jane has never done more than about six obstacles in a row. She did well on the tunnelers course of nine +/- tunnels. I was thrilled about her performance on the jumpers course of 16 obstacles. I tried to run it once without walking it. No flow. After I walked it, I was thrilled with her run. It wasn't perfect, but the mistakes were wonderful information for me about waiting until she is fully committed to an obstacle. . .back to baby dog. . .handle each obstacle. She's a really fun dog to run.

We did go herding this afternoon after the Dog Days was over, and both dogs were great. I was really proud of both of them. Panda's first outrun made my heart sing. Jane's "steady" was broken, but her gathering pleased me to no end.

I am so glad I found your blog! I love it! I have a 9-10ish year old Golden Retriever named Milly, and am slowly starting the hunt for my first show dog (I'd like to get another Golden)!

As a fellow dog lover I wanted to let you know about a giveaway taking place on my blog for PUPCAKES! :)
